Energy Star

Recently introduced into BC by Natural Resources Canada the ENERGY STAR for New Homes Standard is set to become an industry leader in energy efficient home building.
On average,an ENERGY STAR qualified house is 20% more energy efficient than a minimum ‘code built’ house and has the added health and comfort factor that comes with very low air leakage and a heat recovery ventilation system. Other typical features include efficient heating and cooling systems, increased wall and attic insulation and ENERGY STAR qualified high performance windows and doors.

Another bonus for homebuyers is that they qualify for a 10 per cent refund on mortgage loan insurance premium from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
Fortis is now using ENERGY STAR for their new home incentive programs and these can give rebates of over $2000 for a single family home.  Further information on the benefits of these programs can be found on the FortisBC or BC Hydro Power Smart websites found below.
The incentives are available to both contractors and homeowner builders and, as a Certified Energy Advisor, I can help guide you through the process to ensure that the incentives are realised following completion.
